iPhone, iPod 2.1 jailbreak tools released (Updated)

By David Chartier

If you've been itching for the iPhone OS 2.1 update for your iPhone or iPod touch but waiting until it could be jailbroken, you can finally begin to scratch. The iPhone Dev Team has released updated tools for both devices.

Announced on the iPhone Dev Team blog (hat tip to TUAW), there are new tools to jailbreak the iPhone 2.1 update and the iPod touch 2.1 update, though for now, the iTouch is the only one with a GUI tool. The iPhone, for now, still requires a fairly lengthy set of manual step—see our update below.

Keep in mind, though, that this is a jailbreak for the original iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPod touch, and not an unlock for the iPhone 3G; a tool for unlocking the latest iPhone is still in the oven.

Update

Turns out we had the wrong link; my bad. I updated with a proper link to the iPhone Dev Team blog post. Also, there are GUI tools for both the iPhone and iPod touch versions, but these won't work on the brand new iPod touch 2G just yet.
