A Modified Tricycle In Use

Inspired by our article "4 Ways of Looking at a Bicycle" in our June 2008 issue, reader Lloyd Smith of Longview, Washington wrote RD this letter:
Lloyd Smith sent us photos he took of the modified tricycle in use.
While visiting the Democratic republic of the Congo, I saw a lot of adult-size tricycles that were converted for use by people with disabilities. The sprockets were turned upside down and mounted on the handlebars so that people who couldn't pedal with their legs could run the trike with their hands.
